Compact sedans are often overlooked because drivers believe them too small, too underpowered, or too boring for their tastes. However, often the opposite is true. Power and fun are often hidden underneath the compact sedan exterior.
The Hyundai Elantra is a compact sedan that offers not only a bold style but impressive features, performance, and value. In a comparison between the 2021 and 2020 models, there are not many similarities because Hyundai completely redesigned the Elantra for the 2021 model year.
2021 Models
Almost unrecognizable from its 2020 version, the 2021 Hyundai Elantra starts at $17,899 and is available in three models across Canada: Essential, Preferred, and Ultimate. For less than $18,000, the Elantra features such standard features as heated front seats, an 8-inch touchscreen display, and smartphone integration.
More comfort and driver-assist features are found in the Preferred ($21,899) and Ultimate ($25,599) models, but the Essential offers great value to drivers that want safety, comfort, and performance on a budget.
Powertrains
The powertrain seems to be the one integral piece that stayed the same from 2020 to 2021 in the Hyundai Elantra. Powered by a 147-hp 2.0-litre four-cylinder engine, the Elantra delivers 9.1 L/100km city and 6.3 L/100km highway fuel economy. Hyundai did introduce a hybrid powertrain to its Elantra lineup for 2021, but it is not currently available in Canada.
Technology
The 2021 Hyundai Elantra includes the standard technology features that drivers want on their vehicles, including smartphone connectivity and the all-new Hyundai Key, which allows drivers to start the engine and unlock the doors from the convenience of their smartphone. Optional upgrades include navigation, a digital instrument cluster, and a 10.25-inch touchscreen navigation system.
Interior
The Elantra's cabin environment was upgraded between the 2020 and 2021 model years with the latest version featuring an elongated space with an improved look, thanks in part to the touchscreen infotainment system. Upgraded cabin materials also make drivers forget that the Elantra costs a lot less than similarly outfitted rivals.
A New and Improved Elantra
In a comparison between the 2021 and 2020 models of the Hyundai Elantra, there are not many similarities. Hyundai continues to improve its compact sedan offering by equipping the Elantra with bold styling, high-tech features, and value that cannot be beaten.
