New for 2022, the Santa Fe features fully four powertrain choices. The standard one is based on a 2.5L four-cylinder gas engine making a respectable 191 horsepower, but performance-thirsty drivers will probably want to trade up to the 2.5L turbo option which pushes the ponies up to 277 hp. Both of these gas choices are paired with a smooth eight-speed automatic transmission and either front-wheel or all-wheel drive.

All-New Hybrid Options

But the big news for the latest release is that there are now hybrid and plugin hybrid versions of the Santa Fe available. The regular hybrid pairs a 1.6L four-cylinder engine with dual electric motors to make 226 horsepower, feeding all-wheel drive through a six-speed automatic transmission. For the plugin hybrid, the engine is upgraded to a 1.6L turbo model to push the output up to an enticing 260 hp.

Fuel Economy and Range

The standard Santa Fe has an attractive fuel economy of 9.4L / 100km in the city and 8.4L on the highway, while the high-power turbo option posts 10.7L (city) and 8.4L (highway) to deliver great performance at an economical cost. As expected, the hybrid option lowers consumption even more, with 6.5L in the city and 7.6L on the highway. Lastly, the plugin hybrid is good for a shade below 50km of all-electric driving.
